The HUB Community Center
The HUB is a community center located at Hancock University, 1730 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90813 just south of Pacific Coast Highway. We offer educational services to the community regarding:
- Cycling
- Gardening
- Health & Nutrition
- Workforce Training
The HUB is a project of the Catalyst Network of Communities, sponsored by Hancock University. The HUB's Managing Director is Evan Kelly who oversees operations and staff volunteers.
Objectives include:
- Establish a working bicycle repair and maintenance facility with regular staff and volunteer base
- Provide low cost and no cost educational services to the community regarding bike repair and maintenance
- Utilize donated bicycles and parts to build and refurbish bicycle for sale and charitable donation
- Establish an onsite garden
- Provide education programming for growing herbs and vegetables
- Provide education programming regarding nutritional health and exercise
Our goals are:
- Provide educational services to at least 30 volunteers per year
- Provide at least 10 bicycles to the community at no cost per year
- Build above-ground garden boxes providing at least 100 square feet of garden space
