Organization Description:
The history and programming at the Long Beach Shakespeare Company is inspired by Shakespeare’s work and the cultural richness and diversity of the Long Beach/Southern California region. We discover our collective humanity through inspiring collaborations of classic and contemporary plays/musicals, strengthening the fabric of our collective community while exploring the individualized differences that ultimately make us stronger. We do all of this through our live theatrical performances and through our educational outreach programs. We are committed to promoting literacy and enriching the lives of our stakeholders by inspiring them with quality theatrical productions of the classics and contemporary plays. Additionally, LBSC adapts great works of literature into performable plays. We incorporate the legacy of theatre traditions: spoken word, live music and spectacle into our productions sparking the imaginations of our patrons, students and varied collection of artists associated with Long Beach Shakespeare Company and our Educational Theatre Outreach Programs.
Long Beach Shakespeare Company was founded in 1990 as the non-profit
[501(c) (3)] theatre arts organization named Bard-in-the-Yard. LBSC has been bringing productions and educational outreach to thousands of Long Beach residents and tourists throughout Southern and Central California earning both popular and critical acclaim.
