New Center Space Kick-Off Event!

“Center Space” is a place for residents within the community to regularly come together for connection, partnership, and the sharing of resources. Every Saturday, we'll have a certified farmers market, hot food vendors, zumba, soccer clinics, exercise classes, yoga for both adults and kids, interactive workshops, music, and entertainment. Monthly or quarterly, we'll also have health and dental screenings for the community.

Financial Readiness for Streamlined Grant-Seeking Workshop

 

Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership

Would you benefit from a streamlined grant-seeking and financial reporting system?   Collaborative Partners, Kathy Walsh of NFM Solutions, LLC, and Karen Reside of Reside & Associates, along with their colleague, Jinhong Zhang, CPA, are presenters at this workshop designed to help nonprofit organizations set-up financial systems to make grant-seeking and reporting much easier.   Learn about the abundance of grants available and the full cycle of ongoing streamlined grant-seeking, and how to design an integrated grant reporting and financial operating system through a reverse design process and team approach.  This session will also cover the Unified Chart of Accounts developed by the National Center for Charitable Statistics, and leaders from the California Society of CPAs and California Association of Nonprofits, to assist nonprofit organizations in translating their current financial statements into the reporting categories required by the IRS Form 990, the Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB A-122) and other standard reporting formats.

Handmade Christmas Gift Workshop

Saturday Dec. 3rd from 10am-2pm at Greenly Art Space

Would you like to spend a Saturday morning making Christmas presents for your family and friends? Come to Greenly Art Space, and bring a friend, your kids, or come alone to stimulate your creative aspect in a fun and relaxing environment. Refreshments provided.

A small participation fee of $5 for an individual, or a $10 family fee will help cover basics, and then you can purchase materials at the workshop, or bring some of your own.

Another Green Jobs Workshop Coming Your Way!

Stella Ursua, President of Stellar Organizational Development, will be conducting another session of "What the Heck is a Green Collar Job...Preparing for Green Career Opportunities" on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Cal State University at Long Beach. Please join Stella and interested members of the community as she provides an overview of the green jobs and industries that are getting nation-wide attention.

Upon successful completion of this informational workshop, you will be able to identify and better define green industry jobs, determine how to pursue, prepare for and transition to professions in these fields, identify the educational requirements, accreditations and certifications that will lead to entry into green industry careers, and utilize green job boards, green networking groups and creative methods for getting your foot in the door of green organizations.

Who Should Attend: 
Existing and returning veterans, young adults, unemployed/under-employed workers, women and indiviuals interested in learning more about and transitioning to exciting careers in green industries.

2011-2012 Grant Cycle Workshops

The Arts Council for Long Beach, in collaboration with Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership, is hosting two free grant workshops for the new 2011-2012 Grant Cycle. The workshops will cover application procedures/guidelines for four grant categories: Professional Artist Fellowship, Community Project Grant, Operating Grant I, and Operating Grant II. The workshops will also review the new monthly Micro-Grant Program, which has replaced the Neighborhood Project Grant. Through these grant categories, the Arts Council for Long Beach and the City of Long Beach strive to foster a vibrant arts community that serves the entire city, enlivens neighborhoods, stimulates the local economy, celebrates our diverse cultures and generates enjoyment and civic pride for residents.

Father Greg Boyle is a nationally known author and Jesuit priest who frequently speaks about his decades of experience working in Boyle Heights, one of the poorest communities in Los Angeles, with the largest concentration of gangs in the city.  Father Boyle will share stories of many of the young people he has worked with over the years, who were traumatized by child abuse or neglect, or who as witnesses to severe domestic violence carry these scars into adulthood.  Father Boyle will illuminate how victimized youth seek alternative "families" in order to escape the lack of nurturing at home, and how by offering hope and unconditional love to these young people, they can grow into confident, productive adults and citizens.  

EALB will provide 2 CEUs to MFTs/LCSWs in attendance:

Herbal Studies Group

A donation-based group lead by Julie James. Green wisdom provides classes on natural and traditional herbalism at various venues in LA County. These donation based classes at Catalyst Space provide opportunities for those who would like to attend a class but can't pay the usual fee.
